You must know what <strong>the</strong> rights and duties of a guardian generally include.<br />

They are listed on pages 300±301 of <strong>the</strong> textbook.<br />

1.4 Termination of guardianship<br />

Note that guardianship is terminated at <strong>the</strong> commencement of certain<br />

events. These events are listed on page 301 of your textbook from (1) <strong>to</strong><br />

(7). You must be able <strong>to</strong> list <strong>the</strong>m.<br />

2 CURATORSHIP<br />

Under this heading in your textbook on page 301 <strong>the</strong> concept cura<strong>to</strong>rship<br />

is defined. Thereafter it is explained that a cura<strong>to</strong>r can be appointed for<br />

different purposes. Ensure in this regard that you know what a curatrix<br />

bonis, acuratrix personae and a curatrix ad litem is.<br />

2.1 The types of cura<strong>to</strong>rs<br />

The different types of cura<strong>to</strong>rs for which South African law provides, are<br />

set out on pages 302±303 of <strong>the</strong> textbook. Ensure that you can give a<br />

proper definition of each type of cura<strong>to</strong>r (ie a cura<strong>to</strong>r nominate, an<br />

assumed cura<strong>to</strong>r, a cura<strong>to</strong>r dative and a cura<strong>to</strong>r ad litem).<br />
