Muslim marriages are not yet fully recognised by our law. However, the
legislature and courts have extended some recognition to these marriages.
In this study unit you will learn why Muslim marriages are not recognised.
You will also learn about the limited legislative and judicial recognition of
Muslim marriages. Finally, you will investigate the issue of the
constitutionality of the non-recognition of Muslim marriages.
