4 Exploring Your Data with Visual Insight Analyses Report Services Document Analysis Guide Analyzing data in a Graph visualization A Graph visualization displays a set of data in a specific type (called a graph style), allowing you to quickly analyze the data in a visual display. Examples of the graph style include vertical area, bubble, and so on. For example, the following Graph visualization is displayed as an area graph. Analyzing data in a Graph Matrix visualization A Graph Matrix visualization allows you to view your data in a chart containing multiple graphs. A designer can create the visualization to display the data in different graph styles. Report Services Document Analysis Guide Exploring Your Data with Visual Insight Analyses 4 The graph styles available for a Graph Matrix visualization are described below: • Line: You can display your data as a vertical or horizontal line graph, to view lines representing metric values for each element of an attribute. • Bar: You can display your data as a vertical or horizontal bar graph, to view bars representing metric values for each element of an attribute. • Scatter: You can display a scatter plot that allows you to visualize the trends of two different metrics for a set of attribute elements. In the scatter plot: One bubble is displayed for each attribute element. Each bubble’s position on the X-axis represents the value of the first metric. Each bubble's position on the Y-axis represents the value of the second metric. • Bubble: You can display a bubble plot that allows you to visualize the trends of three different metrics for a set of attribute elements. In the bubble plot: One bubble is displayed for each attribute element. Each bubble’s position on the X-axis represents the value of the first metric. Each bubble's position on the Y-axis represents the value of the second metric. The size of each bubble represents the value of the third metric. • Grid: You can use the Grid style to identify trends across combinations of data. Each marker in the grid can be automatically sized or colored based on the value of a metric. For example, a separate bubble can be displayed for each combination of Region and Product Category. Bubbles representing large revenue values are displayed in dark green, and bubbles for smaller revenue values are displayed in light green. Click on graph elements (such as lines, bar risers, or bubbles) to drill up or down and examine your data at the level of a specific attribute element, or filter the data to display only the graph elements that you are interested in. © 2012 MicroStrategy, Inc.
