Use this command to specify the password for a line. Use the no form to<br />

remove the password.<br />

Syntax<br />

password {0 | 7} password<br />

no password<br />

- {0 | 7} - 0 means plain password, 7 means encrypted password<br />

- password - Character string that specifies the line password. The<br />

string can contain any alphanumeric characters, besides spaces,<br />

and can contain up to 8 characters. The password is case sensitive.<br />

Default Setting<br />

No password is specified.<br />

Command Usage<br />

• When a connection is started on a line with password protection, the<br />

system prompts for the password. If you enter the correct password,<br />

the system shows a prompt. You can use the password-thresh<br />

command to set the number of times a user can enter an incorrect<br />

password before the system terminates the line connection and returns<br />

the terminal to the idle state.<br />

• The encrypted password is required for compatiblity with legacy<br />

password settings (i.e., plain text or encrypted) when reading the<br />

configuration file during system bootup or when downloading the<br />

configuration file from a TFTP server. There is no need for you to<br />

manually configure encrypted passwords.<br />
