A chain of kings<br />

Manngawi. His karaeng-title was Karaeng Bawangang.<br />

Another of his wives, a Bajo from Garassiq, was I Uru. She had one son<br />

named I Mattalle who died while still small.<br />

Another of his wives, a child of Karaeng Galesong <strong>and</strong> his first cousin too,<br />

was I Tobo. She had one daughter called I Mene who [26v] was engaged to<br />

Karaeng ri Majannang. She died while still small.<br />

The wife installed with him, also his first cousin, was a child of one<br />

called Datu Paboli with Karaeng Ballaq Bugisika. Her personal name, may<br />

I not be cursed, was I Tadampalili. They had no children. Tumamenanga ri<br />

Bontobiraeng [Karaeng Pattingalloang] was adopted <strong>and</strong> he was also called<br />

family by his elder siblings, by the elders.<br />

We will not name all the wives of this karaeng. Said Tumamenang ri<br />

Bontobiraeng, ‘After he married a Bugis, he repeatedly married Javanese,<br />

then again married overseas.’ Said Tumamenang ri Bontobiraeng, ‘More than<br />

forty times he married.’<br />

One household woman he slept with, named I Teqne, also had one daughter<br />

called I Rikong. Her royal name was I Daeng Tunang.<br />

This karaeng was not praised as a brave man, a wise man, nor praised as a<br />

famous man. He was only called a good-hearted man, a just man.<br />

Thirty-four years after becoming Muslim he died. He had ruled fortysix<br />

years. Following Karaeng Matoaya by two years, eight months, twenty<br />

nights (two hundred fifty-six nights in all) 138 after Karaeng Matoaya died he<br />

died too. 139<br />

There are no conquered communities discussed here because he conquered<br />

no communities after Karaeng Matoaya [died].<br />

This karaeng was loved by the gallarrang, the tau taballaqna, though the anaq<br />

karaeng <strong>and</strong> the tumailalang loved Tunijalloq more.<br />

This Karaeng retained [as tumailalang Karaeng ri Maros, Karaeng ri<br />

Patteqne <strong>and</strong> retained also] 140 as sabannaraq I Kare Panngepaq. Karaeng ri<br />

Patteqne died. Karaeng ri Maroanging replaced Karaeng ri Patteqne. He had<br />

seven children. One of his children was I Ganti 141 whose karaeng-title was<br />

Karaeng ri Alluq, <strong>and</strong> who had a child Karaeng Paqbundukang along with<br />

his siblings. Another was I Mallombasi who was the gr<strong>and</strong>parent of Karaeng<br />

ri Suli. Another of his children was I Mappakanro whose karaeng-title was<br />

Karaeng Jeqneqponto <strong>and</strong> who was the gr<strong>and</strong>parent of Gallarrang Saumata.<br />

Another daughter, she had a child, the mother of I Kalula. Another daughter,<br />

she was married by Karaeng ri Batupute. 142 Karaeng ri Maroanging, 143<br />

he was the youngest. He succeeded because he was the child of an equal. A<br />

sibling of Karaeng ri Maroanging named I Mamminawang, his royal name<br />

was I Daeng Manngawing. 144<br />

The children of Karaeng ri Maros were nine. One daughter was I<br />

Tanikallong, who was the gr<strong>and</strong>parent of I Kare Nana. 145 One named I Daeng
