<strong>on</strong> lodglng resistance. In terms <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>breeding</strong> methodologyr<br />

therefore, selecti<strong>on</strong> pressure for J"odging resistance must<br />

âccompany selecti<strong>on</strong> for semi-dwarfism to achíeve the poten_<br />

tial j-n lodging resístance that is possible in this type <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

material. fhe effects <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> other factors, such as envir<strong>on</strong>nent<br />

under which the material ís grown, was evj_denced by the<br />

Sanford <strong>and</strong> Portage 19?6 locati<strong>on</strong>s in the present study.<br />

There, despite better growing c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>and</strong> higher yield<br />

levels, no lodging occwred at all, den<strong>on</strong>strating the<br />

difficulty encountered when attempting to effectlvely seLect<br />

for lodgíng resj_stance.<br />
