reported by Guitard et a1" (1961) i-n wheat, oats <strong>and</strong> barley.<br />

Reported results <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ïloodward (f966) <strong>and</strong> Dubetz <strong>and</strong> Bole<br />

(1973) in wheat¡ Foth g! aL (L964) in oats; <strong>and</strong> Kirby<br />

(1968), Willey <strong>and</strong> Holliday (19?1), <strong>and</strong> Gardener <strong>and</strong><br />

Rathjen Ã9? 5) in barley are in generaÌ agreement with the<br />

findings <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> Guitard.<br />

Other important agr<strong>on</strong>omic eharacter associati<strong>on</strong>s in<br />

barley have been reported in the literature. lisi <strong>and</strong> Lambert<br />

(f954) reported a negative correlati<strong>on</strong> between yield <strong>and</strong><br />

number <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> days to heading, while Rutger et aI. (196?)<br />

reported no significant relati<strong>on</strong>ship. Fiuzat <strong>and</strong> Atkins<br />

(fgfi) reported a negative associati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> yield <strong>and</strong> maturity<br />

in <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> two barley crossesr<br />

Yiel-d was reported to be positively correl-ated wÍth<br />

percent plumpness <strong>and</strong> test weight in barley by Rutger et al-.<br />

(L96?) <strong>and</strong> Nasr et al. (1973), although the latter found no<br />

relati<strong>on</strong>ship in some crosses investigated. DenHartog <strong>and</strong><br />

lanbert (]-953) also reported positive yield-test weight<br />

correlati<strong>on</strong>s in barley.<br />

Yield-quality factor correLati<strong>on</strong>s in barfey have also<br />

been reported. Yield <strong>and</strong> grain protein have been reported<br />

as negatívely related (DenHartog <strong>and</strong> Iambert, 1953; Hsi <strong>and</strong><br />

T,ambert, 1954; Johnst<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> Aksel, 1964¡ Hayter <strong>and</strong> Riggs,<br />
