three popr¡lati<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> barley, developed from crosses<br />

involving <strong>on</strong>e semf-dwarf parent, were grown at each <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> two<br />

locati<strong>on</strong>s for two years. The data were used to estÍmate<br />

heritabilities <strong>and</strong> variance c<strong>on</strong>p<strong>on</strong>ents for <str<strong>on</strong>g>plant</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>height</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>and</strong><br />

several 0ther agr<strong>on</strong>omic parameters as well as to define the<br />

ínterrelatl<strong>on</strong>ships <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> these parameters by correlatL<strong>on</strong> pro_<br />

cedures. Some malting quality traits were ÍncLuded ín the<br />

correlati<strong>on</strong> study.<br />

The objective was to determine the effects <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> involving<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>reduced</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>plant</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>height</str<strong>on</strong>g> in barley <strong>on</strong> <strong>breeding</strong> procedures <strong>and</strong> <strong>on</strong><br />

other parameters <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> c<strong>on</strong>cern to breeders. Further to this<br />

was the objective <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> individual genotypic evaluati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

The introducti<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>reduced</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>plant</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>height</str<strong>on</strong>g> into the<br />

barley populati<strong>on</strong>s studied was interpreted as not appreciably<br />

affecting the variances <strong>and</strong> heritabilities <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> other agr<strong>on</strong>omic<br />

characteristics studied.<br />

Plant <str<strong>on</strong>g>height</str<strong>on</strong>g> itself was highly herÍtable, as was kernel<br />

weight. Days to heading, <strong>and</strong> maturity were generaì.1y highly<br />

heritable, while test weíght, plumpness anit lodging were<br />

somewhat less heritable, yield. had the lowest heritabilÍty.<br />
