Since the ÍraÍn purpose <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> deveLoping semi-dwarfs is to<br />

irnprove straw strength, whlch is associated with shorter<br />

straw, knowledge <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> factors influencing the <str<strong>on</strong>g>height</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> a<br />

seml" -dwarf is desirable. Therefore, the effects <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> various<br />

spacings <strong>and</strong> seeding rates <strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>plant</str<strong>on</strong>g> heíght was i.rnportant.<br />

Varying row spaeing <strong>and</strong> seeding rate did not alter the<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>height</str<strong>on</strong>g> relati<strong>on</strong>ship between the two genotypes. However, the<br />

dífferent envir<strong>on</strong>mental c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s encountered did. read to<br />

variable behaviour. A.t both Sanford <strong>and</strong> Winnipeg, under good<br />

growing c<strong>on</strong>ditj.<strong>on</strong>s, both genotypes were taller than at Carman,<br />
