Project: 825501 Wright Ave Water Plant Mechanical Reconstruction
Origination Year: 2005-06
Planned Completion Year: 2012-13
Department: Public Works
Project Description / Scope / Purpose
Project Information Sheet
Type: Water
Category: Infrastructure
Project Manager: Hira Raina
Fund: 460 Water Supply and Distribution Fund
Sub-Fund: 300 Water Infrastructure Subfund
Project Coordinator: Val Conzet
The project will replace 5 regulating valves, 3 electric motors (with a booster pump and a motor control center for each motor), and a lighting electrical sub-panel at the Wright Avenue Water Plant.
One magnetic flow meter and one control valve will also be installed. These items will provide better control of the water system. The propane generator that will replace the motor will provide
electricity during power failure to the whole station not to just one pump as the existing system does. The most urgent item of the project is the installation of the control valve and magnetic meter to
allow Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) control.
In prior years, this project included the installation of a needed by-pass valve, design of the control valve and the magnetic meter. Design for renovation of the remainder of the plant will be done in
FY 2010/11. Construction of the motor control centers will start in FY 2011/12 and valves and generator work will be done in FY 2012/13.
Project Evaluation and Analysis
The alternative to not doing this project would be to leave the plant without connection to the SCADA system, which would slow down any response to emergencies in the plant. In case of an
emergency situation in which SCVWD cannot provide water, we would have to send a crew with a special truck to turn off the 30" valve connecting us to SCVWD. The control valve would give us
the ability to remotely shut down the valve from the SCADA operations room.
Fiscal Impact
This project is funded by the Water Supply & Distribution Fund.
