For FY 2009, the Governor's Emergency Management Administration (CalEMA) awarded the County <strong>of</strong> Santa Clara an Emergency Management Performance Grant in the amount <strong>of</strong> $294,110 for<br />

the purpose <strong>of</strong> emergency planning. The <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> Sunnyvale was awarded $23,155 <strong>of</strong> this funding. This allocation has been identified in RTC 10-049 to be utilized for the enhancement <strong>of</strong><br />

Sunnyvale's preparedness efforts.<br />

Project Evaluation and Analysis<br />

The Community Emergency AM Radio Broadcast System is currently in the process <strong>of</strong> being upgraded. A key component to this system is the ability to notify residents <strong>of</strong> emergencies. DPS, DPW<br />

and the Transportation department are working together to enhance the notification system to increase the functionality <strong>of</strong> digital sign boards throughout the city.<br />

Fiscal Impact<br />

EMPG grant guidelines allow funds to be used for either program improvements or to <strong>of</strong>fset program expenditures. RTC 10-049 recommends that the 2009 EMPG funding be used by the <strong>City</strong> in its<br />

Emergency Preparedness efforts to upgrade the Community Emergency AM Radio Broadcast System.<br />
