The year 2003-04 had also seen the following<br />

significant achievements <strong>of</strong> NPTI<br />

The <strong>Power</strong> Training Centre <strong>of</strong> NPTI for the<br />

North Eastern Region was flagged <strong>of</strong>f by the<br />

Hon’ble Minister <strong>of</strong> State at Guwahati in<br />

September,2003.<br />

developed as the Training Management<br />

Information system for the <strong>Power</strong> Sector was<br />

launched by Hon’ble Minister <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong> in<br />

December,2003. It gives comprehensive data<br />

on Training Institutes and their courses to<br />

cater to the varied requirements in technical,<br />

managerial, commercial, and attitudinal areas<br />

<strong>of</strong> human resources in the <strong>Power</strong> Sector.<br />

Keeping in mind that training is a very<br />

important component <strong>of</strong> human resources<br />

development and cost effective method <strong>of</strong><br />

improving competencies to instill positive<br />

attitude amongst the manpower <strong>of</strong> any<br />

organization, the NPTI instituted two Awards<br />

- one for organizations adopting best training<br />

practices and the other for best trainers who<br />

have made significant contribution in the field<br />

<strong>of</strong> training.<br />

NPTI attracted 52 foreign-national trainees<br />

from Bhutan, Iraq, Myanmar, Phillippines,<br />

Cambodia, Zambia, Nigeria, Kenya, Mexico<br />

and Sudan under its training programs.<br />

Besides the regular training programs <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Institute, several specialized long term and<br />

short term training programs on topics like<br />

<strong>Power</strong> Distribution Management <strong>Power</strong> Plant<br />

Technology/ Operation, Maintenance <strong>of</strong><br />

Switchgear/transformer/Valves, etc. were<br />

conducted.<br />

26 Technical/Management Papers were<br />

presented by the Institute’s Faculty<br />

Members in different National/International<br />

Conferences / Journals in India and abroad.<br />

In order to sensitise the user community<br />

on Energy Environment Linkage, NPTI<br />

conducted public awareness programmes<br />

covering more than 35,000 participants,<br />

spreading awareness amongst the masses<br />

in different parts <strong>of</strong> the country.<br />

The Institute also bagged consultancy<br />

assignment recruitment <strong>of</strong> Assistant<br />

Engineers/ Jr. Engineers for Uttaranchal Jal<br />

Divyut Nigam Ltd.<br />

The NPTI have been entrusted the<br />

responsibility <strong>of</strong> Capacity Building in the<br />

Distribution sector under APDRP. The first<br />

training <strong>of</strong> Trainers Program under this scheme<br />

was successfully completed in August,2003<br />

for 50 Executives from different organizations,<br />

SEBs, PSUs, etc. The second pilot Training<br />

Program under APDRP for 31 Chief Engineers<br />

/ Supdtg. Engineers from various SEBs <strong>of</strong><br />

NE Region was conducted at Guwahati.<br />
