JOINT VENTURE WITH SAIL<br />

(i) The turnover <strong>of</strong> the Company “NTPC-SAIL<br />

POWER COMPANY (Pvt.) LTD.” (NSPCL)<br />

for the year 2003-2004 was Rs.300 crore<br />

(Provisional) as compared to Rs.278 Cr. during<br />

2002-03, registering an increase <strong>of</strong> 8%. The<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>it (after tax) <strong>of</strong> the Company for the<br />

year 2003-04 was Rs.25.01 Cr. (Provisional).<br />

The Company generated total <strong>of</strong> 1666 MU at<br />

Rourkela CPP-II and Durgapur CPP-II<br />

during 2003-04.<br />

(ii) The Turnover <strong>of</strong> the Company “BHILAI<br />

ELECTRIC SUPPLY COMPANY Private<br />

Limited (BESCL)”, another Joint Venture <strong>of</strong><br />

NTPC & SAIL was Rs.147 Cr. (Provisional)<br />

during 2003-04 as against Rs.140 Cr.<br />

during 2002-03, registering an increase<br />

<strong>of</strong> 5%. The pr<strong>of</strong>it (after tax) <strong>of</strong> the Company<br />

for the year 2003-04 was Rs.7.02 Cr.<br />

(Provisional). The Company generated 521<br />

MU during 2003-04. In addition Bhilai CPP-<br />

II supplied 11.95 lakh tonne Saturated Steam<br />

to Bhilai Steel Plant during 2003-04.<br />

NTPC and TNEB have formed a Joint Venture<br />

Company under the name <strong>of</strong> “NTPC-Tamil<br />

Nadu Energy Company Ltd.”. The<br />

Company was incorporated on 23 rd May<br />

2003 to set up a coal-based power<br />

station <strong>of</strong> 1000 MW capacity, at Ennore,<br />

using Ennore port Infrastructure facilities.<br />

Site Specific & other studies are presently<br />

under progress to establish the feasibility <strong>of</strong><br />

setting up <strong>of</strong> the project.<br />

C Activities for New Joint Ventures<br />

a) Joint Venture with Railways<br />

NTPC has signed an MOU with <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Railways on 18.02.2002 for setting up power<br />

plant(s) <strong>of</strong> 2000 MW capacity to meet the<br />

traction and non-traction power requirement<br />

<strong>of</strong> Railways. After studying various sites in<br />

India, it has been decided to set up a 1000<br />

MW (4x250 MW) power plant at<br />

Nabinagar, Bihar. FR for this project has<br />

been prepared. PIB meeting for the project<br />

was held on 13.02.04. Cabinet note is under<br />

preparation. Cabinet approval will be sought<br />

after State Pollution Control Board clearance<br />

and MOE&F clearance is available.<br />

b) Take Over <strong>of</strong> Muzaffarpur Thermal<br />

<strong>Power</strong> Station (MTPS)<br />

Meetings were held with BSEB and GOB<br />

for the transfer <strong>of</strong> the MTPS to NTPC on a<br />

long-term lease and for NTPC to carry out<br />

the necessary R&M for improving the<br />

performance <strong>of</strong> the station. Draft agreements<br />

had been prepared after discussion with<br />

GOB/BSEB. ‘In-principle’ approval <strong>of</strong><br />

NTPC is awaited from Govt. <strong>of</strong> Bihar.<br />

Joint Venture with BHEL<br />

MoU has been signed between NTPC and<br />

BHEL on 19th June 2003 to take up EPC<br />

jobs, running maintenance and<br />

peripheral activities in India & abroad.<br />

Joint Venture Company will be formed after<br />

signing the Joint Venture agreement, which<br />

is under approval <strong>of</strong> the management <strong>of</strong><br />

NTPC & BHEL. JVA will be signed by<br />

BHEL & NTPC after management approval<br />

in both organizations.<br />

Joint Venture with REC<br />

NTPC is exploring the possibility to take up<br />

Decentralized Distributed Generation<br />

(DDG) for rural electrification through<br />

Non-Conventional energy resources such<br />

as Biomass, Solar etc. REC has shown<br />

keen interest in joining with NTPC for<br />

implementation <strong>of</strong> such projects. MoU has<br />

been signed with REC on 23.03.04. A task<br />

force is being formed to handle the projects<br />

under DDG.<br />

e) Joint Venture with GPCL<br />

MoU has been signed on 20.02.04 between<br />

NTPC, Gujarat <strong>Power</strong> Corporation Ltd.<br />

(GPCL), and GEB to set up 1000 MW<br />

Thermal <strong>Power</strong> Project at Pipavav in<br />

Gujarat. Draft share acquisition &<br />

shareholders agreement is under preparation.<br />

MoU with KSIDC<br />

A MoU was signed on 14.01.04 with KSDIC<br />

for extending all the necessary assistance<br />

to expand Kayamkulam Combined Cycle<br />

<strong>Power</strong> Project to 1950 MW using LNG<br />

as fuel.<br />

Subsidiaries<br />

A NTPC Electric Supply Co. Ltd.(NESCL)<br />

A wholly owned Subsidiary Company for<br />

power distribution business namely, NTPC<br />

Electric Supply Company Ltd. has been<br />

formed to take up power distribution activities.<br />

NTPC Electric Supply Company Ltd. (NESCL)<br />

has been awarded the consultancy work <strong>of</strong><br />

Project Monitoring and Quality Assurance and<br />

Inspection <strong>of</strong> APDRP circles <strong>of</strong> Indore and<br />

Ujjain along with 8 districts <strong>of</strong> Western Zone<br />

<strong>of</strong> MPSEB for a total value <strong>of</strong> Rs 191 lakhs<br />

by Madhya Pradesh State Electricity<br />
