North Eastern Electric <strong>Power</strong> Corporation Ltd.<br />

(NEEPCO) was constituted in 1976 under the<br />

company’s act 1956 with the objective <strong>of</strong><br />

developing the power potential <strong>of</strong> the North<br />

Eastern Region <strong>of</strong> the country through planned<br />

development <strong>of</strong> power generation projects which<br />

in turn would effectively promote the development<br />

<strong>of</strong> the North Eastern Region. Since then<br />

NEEPCO has grown into one <strong>of</strong> the pioneer<br />

public sectors with an authorised share capital<br />

<strong>of</strong> Rs. 3500.00Crs. and having an installed<br />

capacity <strong>of</strong> 1130MW (755 MW hydro & 375 MW<br />

thermal) meets more than 50% <strong>of</strong> the energy<br />

requirements <strong>of</strong> the NE Region. The main<br />

objectives <strong>of</strong> Corporation are to add to the power<br />

generating capacity in the North Eastern Region<br />

by ensuring optimum utilisation <strong>of</strong> commissioned<br />

generation projects, to generate adequate internal<br />

resources ensuring justifiable return on<br />

investment, to continue sustained efforts to obtain<br />

POWER GENERATION:<br />

During the period from 1st January’ 03 to 31st March ‘ 04, NEEPCO generated 2124 MU from<br />

hydro stations against a target <strong>of</strong> 2343 MU and<br />

2733 MU from thermal stations against a target<br />

the receivables from State Electricity Boards /<br />

Departments and to undertake long term feasibility<br />

studies for optimum development <strong>of</strong> hydro power<br />

resources <strong>of</strong> the North Eastern Region.<br />

1. CAPACITY ADDITION PROGRAMME FOR<br />

THE 10TH PLAN:<br />

During 9th Plan, NEEPCO added 754 MW<br />

(174 MW Thermal and 580 MW Hydro<br />

<strong>Power</strong>) as per the capacity addition<br />

programme. The proposed capacity addition<br />

during the 10th Plan has been fixed as 365<br />

MW (280 MW Thermal and 85 MW Hydro).<br />

Out <strong>of</strong> this, Kopili H.E. <strong>Power</strong> Station – 2nd Stage with one unit <strong>of</strong> 25MW has already<br />

been commissioned.<br />

2. PROJECTS UNDER OPERATION AND<br />

MAINTENANCE :<br />

7 Kopili H.E <strong>Power</strong> Station – 2nd Stage. Assam 25 MW<br />

TOTAL 1130 MW<br />

<strong>of</strong> 2666.32 MU. The cumulative generation since<br />

inception till 31 st March ‘ 04 from NEEPCO <strong>Power</strong><br />

Stations was 26395 MUs. Station wise target<br />
