wide telecom network at an estimated cost <strong>of</strong><br />

Rs 934 Crore. POWERGRID envisages a<br />

broadband network <strong>of</strong> about 20,000 km<br />

interconnecting over 60 major Metros/Cities, rural<br />

and unserved area. The broadband telecom<br />

network envisages installation <strong>of</strong> high capacity<br />

Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM)/<br />

Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) technology<br />

and dedicated Integrated Network Management<br />

System for efficient operation and maintenance<br />

<strong>of</strong> the telecom network. POWERGRID’s over<br />

20,000 Kms <strong>of</strong> Telecom Link to be commissioned<br />

shortly will provide much needed strong highway<br />

<strong>of</strong> communication at affordable cost with ultra<br />

modern and eco-friendly implementation<br />

techniques.<br />

POWERGRID has obtained Infrastructure<br />

Provider–I&II and ISP–Category ’A’ license from<br />

Government <strong>of</strong> India. In fact, POWERGRID has<br />

already commenced commercial operation <strong>of</strong> few<br />

<strong>of</strong> its links like Commercial operation began on<br />

existing links: Delhi – Chandigarh, Delhi – Simla,<br />

Delhi – Jaipur & Delhi – Lucknow – Mumbai –<br />

Ahmedabad.<br />
