on Hindi Day. Hindi Day was celebrated on<br />

15.9.2003. A cultural programme was also<br />

presented by <strong>of</strong>ficers and staff <strong>of</strong> CEA.<br />

To create intrest in Hindi sufficient number <strong>of</strong><br />

books in Hindi were purchased for library <strong>of</strong> CEA.<br />

About 50% amount <strong>of</strong> library grant was spent<br />

on purchase <strong>of</strong> Hindi Books.<br />

To inculcate the intrest in Hindi CEA is publishing<br />

a quarterly home magazine namely “Vidyut Vahini”.<br />

NTPC<br />

Annual programme received from Raj Bhasha<br />

Vibhag <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> Home Affairs is discussed<br />

meticulously in order to implement Official<br />

Language policy <strong>of</strong> Government <strong>of</strong> India. Based<br />

on the Annual programme received from Raj<br />

Bhasha Vibhag, Hindi <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> NTPC prepare<br />

an action plan in their annual conference for the<br />

smooth and systematic implementation <strong>of</strong> Hindi<br />

in day to day <strong>of</strong>ficial work. Cash incentives have<br />

been given to the employees who perform work<br />

in Hindi e.g. cash award equivalent to one<br />

increment is given per month. Employees are<br />

being encouraged for writing original books in Hindi<br />

on technical subjects and are given cash prizes.<br />

Regular Quarterly meetings <strong>of</strong> “Official Language<br />

Implementation Committee” is held at Corporate<br />

Centre with representatives <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>/<br />

Govt. <strong>of</strong> India being present. Annual Rajbhasha<br />

Officers’ meets are held to discuss agenda<br />

items, review actions and adopt plans. Corporate<br />

Rajbhasha Deptt. also audits <strong>of</strong>fices/Stations from<br />

time to time.<br />

The Parliamentary Committee on <strong>of</strong>ficial language<br />

has inspected NTPC Dadri, Faridabad, & Mumbai<br />

<strong>of</strong>fices this year. The committee has appreciated<br />

the progress <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial language in these <strong>of</strong>fices<br />

and also given their valuable suggestions for<br />

further improvements in some areas which are<br />

being implemented. As per advice <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Parliamentary Committee, NTPC organized ALL<br />

India conference this year at Corporate Centre<br />

and at all 5 Regional Head quarters on “Hindi<br />

in UNO: Our Preparations” to include Hindi as<br />

the seventh <strong>of</strong>ficial language <strong>of</strong> the UNO.<br />

NTPC introduced “Rajbhasha trophies” for the<br />

PSUs under the aegis <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Power</strong>.<br />

Hindi Diwas and Hindi Fortnight were organized<br />

during this year. Various Hindi competitions were<br />

conducted. Rajbhasha <strong>of</strong>ficers are placed as per<br />

requirement/guidelines in all <strong>of</strong>fices/stations.<br />

NTPC won Awards/recognition for progressive use<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hindi in the Organization.<br />

NHPC<br />

All out efforts were made to Implement Official<br />

Language Policy <strong>of</strong> the Government <strong>of</strong> India and<br />

to encourage progressively the use <strong>of</strong> Hindi in<br />

day to day <strong>of</strong>ficial work. In pursuance <strong>of</strong><br />

Government’s directives a Hindi Fortnight was<br />

observed from September 1 to 14,2003 in<br />

Corporate Office as well as its Projects/<strong>of</strong>fices.<br />

During this period various competitions and<br />

programmes (like Book Exhibition etc.,) were<br />

organised. Hindi Patrika ‘Rajbhasha Jyoti’ was<br />

published. Prizes were given to the winners.<br />

Internal Rajbhaha Inspections were carried out<br />

<strong>of</strong> different departments/projects/<strong>of</strong>fices by<br />

Rajbhasha Vibhag <strong>of</strong> the Corporation. Hindi<br />

Language and Hindi typing/.stenography training<br />

classes were held. Hindi workshops were<br />

organised to increase the use <strong>of</strong> Hindi in<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficial work.<br />

PGCIL<br />

In pursuance <strong>of</strong> Govt. <strong>of</strong> India’s policy to promote<br />

extensive use <strong>of</strong> Rajbhasha in the corporation,<br />

POWERGRID has been notified in the gazette<br />

for using Hindi in all its <strong>of</strong>ficial works. During the<br />

year, the Parliamentary Committee on Rajbhasha<br />

visited various establishments <strong>of</strong> the corporation<br />

and found implementation <strong>of</strong> Rajbhasha to be<br />

highly satisfactory. The efforts made by<br />

POWERGRID in promoting the implementation<br />

<strong>of</strong> Rajbhasha has been applauded in many<br />

forums, which is reflected in POWERGRID<br />

bagging the Rajbhasha Shield <strong>of</strong> <strong>Ministry</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Power</strong>. About 400 employees have been imparted<br />

training in subjects related to Rajbhasa and a<br />

large number <strong>of</strong> employees have been imparted<br />

training in Hindi s<strong>of</strong>tware.<br />

PFC<br />

It was yet another year <strong>of</strong> achievements in the<br />

field <strong>of</strong> Official Language Implementation <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Corporation. Effective and Extensive efforts were<br />

made to achieve the targets fixed in the Annual<br />

Programme issued by Department <strong>of</strong> Official<br />

Language. To give impetus to the correspondence<br />

in Hindi, Standard Hindi Letter/Format was made<br />

available on ‘LAN’ to the HR/Admn/Account Units.<br />

Meetings <strong>of</strong> Official Language Implementation<br />

Committee were convened regularly. For<br />

encouraging employees to do their maximum<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficial work in Hindi, various Hindi Competitions<br />

and Workshops were organised. An incentive<br />
