8 • Maintenance
The test print allows you to print a test pattern to see if the printhead
is functioning properly or you have enough ink in the cartridge.
1. Press Options.
2. Press Page Down twice.
3. Select "Advanced Features".
4. Select "Maintenance mode".
5. Select "Printer maintenance".
6. Select "Test Print".
7. When prompted, insert an envelope through the machine.
8. You are prompted if the test pattern is OK.

• If test pattern looks OK
A. Press Yes and you return to the PM Maintenance menu.
B. Press Clear (back arrow key) four times to return to the
Home screen.
• If test pattern does not look OK
A. Press No. A list of purges display.
B. Select "Purge A". The system executes a purge (this may
take a few moments).
C. When finished, press Clear (back arrow key) to return to
the PM Maintenance menu.
D. Select "Test Print" to ensure that the system is printing a
good test print (go back to step 7).
NOTE: If the system continues to print poor test prints, you
should replace your ink cartridge (see "Replacing the Ink
Cartridge/Printhead" procedure in Chapter 8, Maintenance)
and then perform another test print (see above).
