Glossary<br />

Account—A department (e.g., "Sales”) to which postage is charged.<br />

Your machine al lows you to set up and choose up to 25 different<br />

ac counts, each with a unique name. The machine stores the total<br />

postage used and the num ber of mail piec es pro cessed for each<br />

account.<br />

Advertisement (envelope)—An advertising message that appears<br />

next to the machine's digital indicia. You can choose from an ar ray<br />

of stan dard and custom ads. See Chapter 10, Supplies/Options for<br />

ordering.<br />

Ascending Register ($ Used)—The total amount of post age used<br />

since the machine was placed in ser vice.<br />

Batch Register—A part of the machine’s memory that stores the<br />

total postage spent and the number of piec es of mail pro cessed.<br />

Your machine stores this in for ma tion in memory for each account.<br />

You can clear the con tents of the batch reg is ter if you want.<br />

Default—A value or setting the machine au to mat i cal ly uses unless<br />

you change it. As delivered, your machine has fac to ry-set defaults or<br />

“normal” settings. You may change these if you wish.<br />

Descending Register ($ Available)—The postage funds avail able<br />

for use.<br />

<strong>Digital</strong> Indicia—The imprint produced by the machine (the machine<br />

stamp). The word “in di cia” means postal markings.<br />

They may include:<br />

• An Advertisement. This is an optional part of the machine stamp<br />

that lets you convey your own special mes sage to the mail recipient.<br />

• The Date<br />

• The machine’s Serial Number<br />

• Postal Code<br />

• Information for use by Canada Post<br />

Home Screen—The machine display that shows your cur rent<br />

selections. It indicates that you're ready to print post age.<br />

Inspection—The process of examining the postage usage through<br />

the machine to assure accurate postal funds ac count ing. Your<br />

machine is sub ject to remote in spec tion when ev er you add postage<br />

to it. If you haven't re filled your machine by modem for 60 days, the<br />

dis play shows the mes sage “Inspection Due” if you haven't re filled it<br />

for 90 days, you'll see “Inspection Re quired.”<br />
