A rough surfaced paper or thick print media can cause the problem. (See Acceptable paper and other media on page 12.) Make sure that you choose the proper media type in the printer driver or in the machine’s Paper Type menu setting. (See Acceptable paper and other media on page 12 and Basic tab in the Software User’s Guide on the CD-ROM.) The problem may disappear by itself. Print multiple pages to clear this problem, especially if the machine has not been used for a long time. Clean the scanner window with a soft cloth. (See Cleaning the laser scanner window on page 124.) The drum unit may be damaged. Put in a new drum unit. (See Replacing the drum unit (494-6) on page 130.) Clean the primary corona wire in the drum unit. (See Cleaning the corona wire on page 126.) Clean the scanner window with a soft cloth. (See Cleaning the laser scanner window on page 124.) The drum unit may be damaged. Put in a new drum unit. (See Replacing the drum unit (494-6) on page 130.) Clean the primary corona wire of the drum unit. (See Cleaning the corona wire on page 126.) Call Service/Support phone number at 1-800-243-5556 (in USA) or 1-800-672-6937 (in <strong>Canada</strong>). Clean the laser scanner window with a soft cloth. (See Cleaning the laser scanner window on page 124.) The toner cartridge may be damaged. Put in a new toner cartridge. (See Replacing the toner cartridge (494-7) on page 127.) Make sure the paper or other print media is loaded properly in the paper tray and that the guides are not too tight or too loose against the paper stack. Set the paper guides correctly. If you are using the MP tray, see Loading envelopes and other media on page 16. The paper tray may be too full. Check the paper type and quality. (See Acceptable paper and other media on page 12.)

High temperatures and high humidity will cause paper to curl. If you do not use the machine often, the paper may have been in the paper tray too long. Turn over the stack of paper in the paper tray. Also, fan the paper stack and then rotate the paper 180° in the paper tray. Make sure that paper is loaded properly. Check the paper type and quality. (See Acceptable paper and other media on page 12.) Turn over the stack of paper in the tray or rotate the paper 180° in the input tray. a Open the back cover. b Press against the "1" on the blue levers on either side of the machine as shown below. c As the top of the lever rotates backward, lift the bottom portion of the lever from below until it stops. d Close the back cover and resend the print job. Note When you have finished printing, open the back cover and reset the two blue levers back to their original position. 109
