Tracks<br />
Majors are required to select a track or area<br />

Each track has two required courses. <strong>The</strong><br />
remaining Communication elective courses can<br />
be from the declared track or from the other<br />
tracks. <strong>The</strong> cognate in communication must<br />
consist <strong>of</strong> eight courses in the same academic<br />
area which will contribute to the student’s<br />
preparation for work in the declared track.<br />

by an asterisk; other courses in the track are<br />

Minor in Communication<br />
A student wishing to minor in Communication<br />
must satisfactorily complete 18 hours<br />
to be selected with the approval <strong>of</strong> the department<br />
chair. Nine <strong>of</strong> these hours must come<br />
from the following three options:<br />
1. COMM 115: Writing for Communication<br />
2. Either COMM 210: Logical and<br />
Rhetorical Analysis or COMM 215:<br />
Introduction to Communication <strong>The</strong>ory<br />
3. COMM 316 Communication Ethics<br />
(COMM 100 and COMM 484 do not<br />
count toward the minor.)<br />
Course Descriptions<br />
COMM 100 3 cr.<br />
Public Speaking<br />
This is a performance class which emphasizes<br />
the theory, composition, delivery, and criticism<br />
<strong>of</strong> speeches. Successful completion <strong>of</strong> COMM<br />
100 (with a grade <strong>of</strong> C or better) fulfills the<br />
speech skills requirement <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.
