students from Mid-Valley and Valley View high<br />
schools who intend to pursue courses <strong>of</strong> study in<br />
health-allied fields.<br />
<strong>The</strong> William J. Cusick Purple Club Scholarship:<br />
Mr. Cusick ’52 established this scholarship,<br />
based not on academic merit but on demonstrated<br />
financial need, for students residing in<br />
New Jersey or eastern Pennsylvania.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Salvatore Cusumano Family Scholarship:<br />
This scholarship, established through a bequest<br />
from Mr. Cusumano, is awarded to students<br />
who are enrolled in the pre-medical program<br />
and who have demonstrated financial need.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Harold Davis, M.D., Scholarship: This<br />
scholarship, established in 1994, is presented to<br />
a female undergraduate from Northeastern<br />
Pennsylvania pursuing a degree in the health sciences.<br />
<strong>The</strong> recipient must be involved in<br />
extracurricular activities. Both financial need and<br />
scholastic merit are considered.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Rev. Royden B. Davis, S.J., Scholarship:<br />
This scholarship, established by the <strong>Scranton</strong><br />
Jesuit Community to honor one <strong>of</strong> its own, provides<br />
financial assistance based on academic<br />
excellence and demonstrated need.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Shirley A. DiAndriola Scholarship: Established<br />
in 1998 through a bequest in the will <strong>of</strong><br />
Shirley A. DiAndriola, this scholarship is<br />
intended for graduates <strong>of</strong> Old Forge High<br />
School attending <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Eugene J. Donahue Scholarship: This scholarship<br />
was established in 1997 in memory <strong>of</strong><br />
John and Ann Donahue by Eugene Donahue, a<br />
resident <strong>of</strong> Clarks Summit and a 1968 graduate<br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. <strong>The</strong> scholarship is<br />
for students who show a demonstrated need, and<br />
first consideration is given to students residing in<br />
Lackawanna County. Recipients must be enrolled<br />
in the <strong>University</strong>’s Dexter Hanley College.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Judith A. Doyle Scholarship: This scholarship<br />
was created by Joseph T. Doyle ’69 in honor <strong>of</strong><br />
his wife and in appreciation <strong>of</strong> his Jesuit education<br />
at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. <strong>The</strong> scholarship<br />
provides financial assistance to deserving<br />
and needy students.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Denise Dubbels Memorial Scholarship: This<br />
scholarship was created by students and faculty<br />
members in memory <strong>of</strong> Denise, an Honors Program<br />
student and member <strong>of</strong> the Special Jesuit<br />
Liberal Arts program, who was killed in an automobile<br />
accident while studying in Russia. Her<br />
degree was conferred posthumously in 1994. <strong>The</strong><br />
scholarship aids students who plan to study in<br />
developing countries.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Attorney John J. and Joanne M. Dunn, Sr.,<br />
Scholarship: Attorney and Mrs. John J. Dunn,<br />
Sr., established this scholarship in 1998 for students<br />
enrolled in the <strong>University</strong>’s Kania School<br />
<strong>of</strong> Management. Preference is given to residents<br />
<strong>of</strong> Lackawanna County.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Robert I. Edelsohn Scholarship: In 1964 a<br />
sum was bequeathed in the estate <strong>of</strong> Robert I.<br />
Edelsohn, a Polish immigrant who became a<br />
<strong>Scranton</strong> businessman and realtor. Income provides<br />
scholarships for needy and deserving students<br />
at the <strong>University</strong>.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Educational Freedom Scholarship: In 1990<br />
Joseph E. McCaffrey ’38 established this scholarship<br />
to aid students who graduate from Lackawanna<br />
County parochial schools. Mr. McCaffrey,<br />
a member <strong>of</strong> the New Jersey Chapter <strong>of</strong> Citizens<br />
for Educational Freedom, passed away in 2000.<br />
<strong>The</strong> ETR and Associates, Inc., Scholarship: This<br />
scholarship was created by Robert E. Lee, president<br />
<strong>of</strong> ETR and Associates, in appreciation <strong>of</strong><br />
the fine Jesuit education his daughter received at<br />
<strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. It is open to any<br />
student demonstrating personal financial need.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Peter J. Farrell and Maida Lippert Farrell<br />
Scholarship: Proceeds from this scholarship,<br />
established in 1988 by Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Matthew C.<br />
Farrell, Ph.D., are intended for students <strong>of</strong><br />
Native American ancestry.<br />
<strong>The</strong> John Francis Finetti Memorial Scholarship:<br />
This scholarship was established by the family <strong>of</strong><br />
a young man from the Hill neighborhood near<br />
the <strong>University</strong>’s campus. It is for students who<br />
demonstrate ability in one or more <strong>of</strong> the areas<br />
<strong>of</strong> history, music, forensics and theatre, with<br />
preference given to students from Lackawanna<br />
County.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Laureen Finn Memorial Scholarship:<br />
Laureen Finn died in her sophomore year at <strong>The</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. Family, friends and fellow<br />
members <strong>of</strong> the Class <strong>of</strong> 1990 established this<br />
scholarship in her memory. Proceeds assist a freshman<br />
education or English major with preference<br />
given to residents <strong>of</strong> Englishtown, New Jersey.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Martha and Herbert Finn Memorial<br />
Scholarship: This scholarship was established by<br />
William H. Finn ’67 in honor <strong>of</strong> Martha and<br />
Herbert Finn. <strong>The</strong> proceeds are to assist students<br />
from southern Connecticut and Westchester,<br />
Nassau and Suffolk counties in New York.
