will notify the student regarding acceptance<br />

or rejection. <strong>The</strong> student who is rejected will<br />

be permitted to finish the semester if he/she<br />

wishes to do so, but will not be allowed to<br />

register for subsequent terms. <strong>The</strong> student<br />

who is accepted will be subject to all rules,<br />

regulations and policies <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Because <strong>of</strong>ficial academic transcripts are necessary<br />

for effective academic advising, the student<br />

who enters under the conditional admission<br />

policy takes full responsibility for any<br />

errors in course selection and for all extra<br />

costs involved in making changes in class<br />

registrations.<br />

Second Baccalaureate Degree<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> graduates and persons<br />

with good scholastic records and a baccalaureate<br />

degree from a regionally accredited<br />

institution, who wish to earn a second baccalaureate<br />

degree at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>,<br />

must apply to Dexter Hanley College.<br />

Candidates for a second baccalaureate<br />

degree are expected to complete a minimum<br />

<strong>of</strong> 30 credits at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong><br />

beyond the completion <strong>of</strong> the studies for the<br />

first degree, <strong>of</strong> which at least 15 credits must<br />

be in the second degree’s major. Students<br />

must complete all requirements for the second<br />

degree not covered by the first degree<br />

program for the major and cognate. All prerequisites<br />

for major and cognate courses must<br />

also be completed.<br />

No semester hours from the first baccalaureate<br />

degree can be used toward this 30-credit<br />

requirement. Grades for courses taken by<br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> graduates after completion<br />

<strong>of</strong> the requirements for the first baccalaureate<br />

degree will have no effect on the<br />

final grade-point average <strong>of</strong> the first degree.<br />

Certificate Programs<br />

Students wishing to complete a certificate<br />

program in Dexter Hanley College must meet<br />

the requirements specified by the appropriate<br />

department.<br />

Self-Improvement<br />

Students who do not plan to work toward<br />

a degree or a certificate must also file an<br />

application for admission and must arrange<br />

for <strong>of</strong>ficial transcripts to be sent to the Dexter<br />

Hanley College Admissions Office.<br />

Visiting Students<br />

Students matriculated in other colleges or<br />

universities who wish to take courses for<br />

credit at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> should<br />

present the written approval <strong>of</strong> their dean or<br />

other authorized administrator for all courses<br />

taken at <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>. <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> does not guarantee<br />

transferability <strong>of</strong> its courses. Reader courses<br />

are not available for visiting students.<br />

Visiting students must complete an application<br />

form but are not required to submit<br />

transcripts. Visiting students taking more<br />

than one course in any semester are required<br />

to attend orientation.<br />

Telecourses<br />

Telecourses provide students with an<br />

opportunity to study with a more flexible<br />

schedule. Courses are normally shown one<br />

hour per week on the regional PBS affiliate,<br />

WVIA-TV. Meetings with instructors are<br />

reduced from the typical three hours per week<br />

to no more than six meetings per semester.<br />

<strong>The</strong>se courses are geared to highly motivated<br />

students capable <strong>of</strong> doing independent work.<br />

(Courses <strong>of</strong>fered vary each semester.)<br />

Online Courses<br />

Many courses at the <strong>University</strong> require that<br />

students have access to a computer and the<br />

Internet for assignments, research, discussion<br />

groups, etc. <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> provides each student<br />

with an account number and there are<br />

computer labs on campus for student use.<br />

In addition, a number <strong>of</strong> faculty are using<br />

CourseInfo (Blackboard) to support or to<br />

teach the entire course. CourseInfo is the<br />

standard university web-courseware tool that<br />

enables an instructor to supplement a course<br />

with online materials and activities, or to<br />

deliver a course solely online. CourseInfo contains<br />

modules for announcements, course<br />

documents, online tests/quizzes, discussion<br />

board, chat and assignments.<br />

At <strong>The</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong>, CourseInfo<br />

is also used to deliver courses solely online.<br />

<strong>The</strong> class documents are posted on the web<br />

and the students are responsible for submitting<br />

the assignments using the provided tools<br />

in CourseInfo. <strong>The</strong>re are virtual <strong>of</strong>fice hours<br />

via the chat room when the instructor can
