Early Assessment and Intervention<br />

This course will focus on the development <strong>of</strong> the<br />

early learner, birth through age eight, along with<br />

appropriate assessment and intervention techniques<br />

for children falling under the IDEA.<br />

Field Experience III<br />

(Prerequisites: EDUC 244, 280. Pre- or co- requisite<br />

EDUC 313) This course will be closely<br />

associated with the methods courses. An emphasis<br />

is placed on studying teaching techniques and<br />

involvement in teacher activities in basic-education<br />

schools. Application required.<br />

EDUC 440, 441, 442, 443 and 444 must be<br />

scheduled during the same semester. Collectively,<br />

they comprise a semester <strong>of</strong> student teaching.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Practice Seminar<br />

In-depth study <strong>of</strong> the rationale, theories, and<br />

techniques for creating a situation where learning<br />

can take place and for handling specific individual<br />

and group behavior problems in productive ways.<br />

Planning in Elementary Student Teaching<br />

Preparation <strong>of</strong> actual teaching plans during elementary<br />

student teaching. Application required.<br />

EDUC 442 3 cr.<br />

Instruction in Elementary Student Teaching<br />

Involvement in implementing methods and<br />

techniques. Elementary-school student teaching<br />

on a full-time basis under the supervision <strong>of</strong><br />

classroom teachers and <strong>University</strong> supervisors.<br />

Student Teaching<br />

Involvement in the management <strong>of</strong> learning situations<br />

during elementary student teaching.<br />

EDUC 444 3 cr.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Growth in Elementary Student<br />

Teaching<br />

<strong>The</strong> demonstration <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth during<br />

student teaching as evidenced by pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

behavior and skills, a commitment to improvement,<br />

and ability to relate to others. This will<br />

include attendance at and participation in a<br />

weekly seminar to analyze and discuss pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

considerations and student-teaching problems.<br />

EDUC 451* 5 cr.<br />

Early Childhood Education Student Teaching<br />

This course is a high-intensity practicum a pre-K<br />

classroom. Assignment by the Education<br />

Department requires completion <strong>of</strong> an application<br />

process. Attendance at weekly seminars is<br />

also required. This course must be preceded by<br />

or be followed by Elementary Student Teaching<br />

if state certification is being pursued. A grade <strong>of</strong><br />

C or higher is required for endorsement <strong>of</strong> certification<br />

applications.<br />

EDUC 440, 456, 457, 458 and 459 must be<br />

scheduled during the same semester. Collectively,<br />

they comprise a semester <strong>of</strong> student teaching.<br />
