Mission Statement<br />
Dexter Hanley College, the undergraduate<br />
college for adult and non-traditional students,<br />
is committed to carrying on the Jesuit tradition<br />
by <strong>of</strong>fering quality programs, quality<br />
services and the opportunity for students to<br />
reach their educational goals. Dexter Hanley<br />
College is dedicated to serving the local community<br />
and continually updates its programs<br />
and services in response to the community’s<br />
ever-changing needs. <strong>The</strong> baccalaureate<br />
degrees earned by DHC students and the faculty<br />
who teach for DHC are the same as for<br />
the other <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Scranton</strong> undergraduate<br />
colleges. In addition, DHC <strong>of</strong>fers credit<br />
certificate programs and associate degrees that<br />
apply towards the baccalaureate degrees.<br />
Dexter Hanley College serves primarily the<br />
following five groups:<br />
1. Adults who wish to pursue an undergraduate<br />
degree<br />
2. Students who want to obtain an associate<br />
degree or certificate<br />
3. Adults who want to improve their pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />
competence and/or to prepare<br />
themselves for new careers<br />
4. Adults who want to take advantage <strong>of</strong><br />
educational programs for enrichment<br />
5. Visiting students from other colleges and<br />
universities<br />
Dexter Hanley College is dedicated to<br />
helping students succeed by <strong>of</strong>fering scholarship<br />
opportunities, life-experience credits, academic<br />
and career counseling, and academic<br />
support services.<br />
Degree Programs<br />
Dexter Hanley College students may<br />
attend courses <strong>of</strong>fered in the day or at night.<br />
Students who can attend courses scheduled<br />
for mornings and afternoons may choose<br />
from the following degree programs in Group<br />
1 or Group 2. Students who plan to attend<br />
only in the evening may select from Group 2.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Dexter Hanley College baccalaureate<br />
programs have the same general-education<br />
requirements as the corresponding programs<br />
in <strong>The</strong> College <strong>of</strong> Arts and Sciences, <strong>The</strong><br />
Kania School <strong>of</strong> Management, and <strong>The</strong><br />
Panuska College <strong>of</strong> Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Studies. It<br />
should be noted, however, that the physical-<br />

education requirement is waived for Dexter<br />
Hanley College students.<br />
Curricular requirements for each degree<br />
program will be found on pages indicated in<br />
the index at the back <strong>of</strong> this catalog. Math<br />
placement testing may determine additional<br />
math prerequisites in addition to those specified<br />
by a degree program.<br />

In general, courses that comprise the major<br />
