(c) Advantage and limitation of soil moisture index<br />
• Moisture index allows <strong>for</strong> comparison of temporal (seasonal) and spatial variation of moisture<br />
budget.<br />
• Being an index based on climatological consideration this method is suitable <strong>for</strong> computing temporal<br />
variation over the long term only. So this method is not suitable <strong>for</strong> monitoring drought over the<br />
short term period.<br />
• This method doesn’t take into consideration water holding capacity of the soil and so doesn’t carry<br />
over moisture surplus in one season to augment deficit in the following season.<br />
