Nathan Lillie is Assistant Professor of International Business and<br />

Management at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and was<br />

until recently a fellow at the Collegium for Advanced Studies at the<br />

University of Helsinki, Finland. He has authored or co-authored several<br />

articles on international trade unionism and on corporate social responsibility.<br />

He has written a book, A global union for global workers: Collective<br />

bargaining and regulatory politics in maritime shipping, 2006, on<br />

global unionism and political regulation in maritime shipping. He is currently<br />

researching the role of unions in global governance.<br />

Doug Miller has been seconded since 2000 to the International<br />

Textile, Garments and Leather Workers’ Federation where he heads the<br />

global union’s research department. His recent publications focus on<br />

aspects of global social dialogue and include book chapters in “The<br />

changing face of the global garment industry”, 2005 (co-authored with<br />

Jennifer Hurley), in The threads of labour, edited by A. Hale and J. Wills;<br />

an article “Preparing for the long haul: Negotiating international framework<br />

agreements in the global textile, garment and footwear sector”, in<br />

Global Social Policy, 2004; and “Business as usual: Governing the supply<br />

chain in clothing post MFA phase out. The case of Cambodia”, in a<br />

Global Union Research Network Discussion Paper, co-authored with Charlene<br />

Aprill, Ramon Certeza, and Veasna Nuon, 2007.<br />

Konstantinos Papadakis is a researcher at the International Institute<br />

for Labour Studies (IILS) of the International Labour Organization.<br />

He holds a PhD in international relations and international law from the<br />

Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. His research has<br />

focused on public governance, corporate social responsibility and crossborder<br />

industrial relations. Recent publications include Civil society, participatory<br />

governance and decent work objectives: The case of South Africa,<br />

2006; “Socially Sustainable Development and Participatory Governance:<br />

Legal and political aspects” (Discussion Paper), 2006; and “Civil Society<br />

and Participatory Governance in South Africa: The quest for socio-economic<br />

equity in the post-apartheid era”, in Use and misuse of civil society,<br />

edited by B. Kohler-Koch and B. Jobert, 2008.<br />

Udo Rehfeldt is a political scientist and senior researcher at the<br />

Institut de Recherches Economiques et Sociales in Noisy-le-Grand near<br />

Paris. He also teaches comparative industrial relations at the University<br />

of Paris-X Nanterre. His research and publication themes include European<br />

works councils, and trade unions and employee representation at<br />

national, European and global levels. His publications include Le syndi-<br />
