A total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 125 participants (60.9%) indicated that this was their first pregnancy<br />

(i.e. primigravid). While not all <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the women who reported a previous pregnancy went to<br />

term with their past pregnancy, 69 women indicated that they had <strong>on</strong>e or more children.<br />

These participants had <strong>on</strong> average 2.2 ± 1.8 children (range 1 – 8) while the median<br />

number was <strong>on</strong>e child.<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>Prenatal</str<strong>on</strong>g> <strong>Health</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Status</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

When asked how they would rate their health during the current pregnancy, 130 women<br />

indicated that it was good (63.4%), 70 indicated average health (34.2%) while 5 indicated<br />

that their health was poor (2.4%). Nearly <strong>on</strong>e-third (32.2%) <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> participants indicated that<br />

they were worried about their health during this pregnancy. The majority <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> participants<br />

indicated that prenatal care was important (199/205, 97.1%).<br />

Table 3.3 reports data <strong>on</strong> the use and views <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> vitamins and supplements by<br />

participants. While the majority <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> women admitted to taking vitamins during their<br />

current pregnancy, <strong>on</strong>ly 74 (37.2%) were taking them daily even though 92.2% indicated<br />

that they felt they should be taking vitamins for good prenatal health. When asked if they<br />

had ever heard <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> vitamin D, 131 resp<strong>on</strong>dents (63.9%) indicated that they had, but <strong>on</strong>ly<br />
