In collaboration with legal organizations <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong> increase women’s legal<br />
protection, the Memory Book project also helps organize legal clinics <strong>to</strong><br />
sensitize community leaders <strong>to</strong> the needs <strong>and</strong> legal rights of women <strong>and</strong><br />
children. The project teaches <strong>and</strong> assists families in will-writing <strong>to</strong> protect<br />
women’s <strong>and</strong> children’s property rights. The program also works <strong>to</strong> reduce<br />
stigma <strong>and</strong> discrimination directed <strong>to</strong>ward <strong>HIV</strong>-positive women by improving<br />
the community’s underst<strong>and</strong>ing of the situation these women are in.<br />

Process<br />
The project started in Palisa <strong>and</strong> Kampala with a “Training of Trainers” for<br />
36 parents <strong>and</strong> 36 children in each district. Participants were parents living<br />
with <strong>HIV</strong> who were interested in planning for the future of their children <strong>and</strong><br />
in improving their communication at the family level. As it would be<br />
necessary <strong>to</strong> openly discuss <strong>HIV</strong> during the training <strong>and</strong> implementation, it<br />
