MOBILE SERVICES
Maxis’ wide range of mobile services
includes voice (both domestic and
international), SMS, voice mail,
multimedia messaging, itemised billing
and advanced data services such as
music downloads, games, sports, caller
ring-tones and various other content
and applications.
Data services are delivered via
mobile devices, tablets and wireless
broadband dongles.
Maxis is Malaysia’s largest international
roaming service provider for voice and
data with over 530 mobile operators
in more than 190 countries. Roaming
agreements with operators in other
countries enable both postpaid and
prepaid mobile customers to connect and
roam when they are on-the-go. Maxis
offers preferential data rates to countries
covered by the Bridge Alliance via its
“Bridge DataRoam Unlimited” package.
In addition to the core mobile service
mentioned above, Maxis also offers a
number of value-added services (VAS),
advanced data services (ADS) and business
solutions. A select list of these services
can be found on pages 70 to 73 of this
section.
Maxis had another first-to-market in
January 2011 with the launch of the first
Managed Machine-to-Machine (M2M)
platform in Malaysia, which allows
customers to manage remote terminals
and systems over a wireless connection in
a more controlled manner.
Postpaid Mobile
Maxis’ postpaid service was launched in
August 1995 and is marketed under the
Maxis brand name. Customers are charged
a monthly fee depending on the rate plan
chosen upon subscription. Additional fees
are charged once the monthly fee usage
amount is exceeded or for services which
are not included in the respective rate plan.
Customers are generally not bound to
any minimum subscription period unless
it is part of a promotional marketing
programme which may include reduced
fees for an initial period or if the contract
involves subsidised or free devices.
To cater for the diverse needs of
customers, several different plans are
offered:
Value Plus Plans – A range of flexible
monthly commitment-based plans. The
committed value can be used for the core
mobile services comprising voice, SMS,
MMS, International Direct Dial (IDD) and
International Roaming. Customers can
enhance their experience by purchasing
additional value-added services and
advanced data services.
Value Plus Family – A range of flexible
monthly commitment-based plans for
users linked to a Value Plus plan. The
committed amount can be used for the
core mobile services. “Linked” Value Plus
and Value Plus Family users also get to
enjoy a generous predefined bundle of
free voice, SMS and video calls for use
among members.
Value Extras – Value Plus users can
purchase additional voice and/or SMS
mini-packages to extend and enhance
the value of their existing plan.
Internet Value Plans – A monthly
mobile plan that is geared towards
internet mobile users. This plan offers
the flexibility of pay-per-use on voice and
SMS services while enjoying worry-free
internet surfing from smartphones on
data bundles of up to 1.5GB.
Value Plus Internet Plans – An
enhanced variant of the Value Plus Plans
in which an attractive mobile internet
quota is pre-bundled with the plans.
Mobile Internet Packages – Standard
and Value Plus users can have access
to the internet via their mobile phones.
They can either use the pay-per-use
option or choose from a wide range of
mobile internet packages. Hourly, daily
and monthly passes are available with
predefined usage limits. Customers can
also opt for dedicated Facebook passes.
Wireless Broadband Packages –
Customers can choose from a wide
range of attractive Wireless Broadband
plans supported by Maxis’ superior 3G/
HSPA network while they are on-the-go.
The HSPA modem comes bundled with
the plans. There is also a range of plans
tailor-made for data-centric tablets.
International Roaming Packages –
Maxis offers a number of international
voice and data roaming packages to
make roaming more affordable. The
Roam *120* and Easy Call Back services
allow customers to call back to Malaysia
from over 25 countries at a significant
discount to standard roaming rates. With
the increasing popularity of smartphones,
Maxis also offers very reasonably priced
day-based passes for unlimited data usage
with 16 major mobile operators globally.
