British banks, the Russo.Asiatic Bank and the Deutsch.
Asiatische Bank, were closed during the war, the former
voluntarily and the latter being confiscated as a war·
measure against enemy business. Two of the foreign
non.British banks, established since the war, have
retired, namely, the South African institution in 1924 and
