British banks, the Russo.Asiatic Bank and the Deutsch.<br />

Asiatische Bank, were closed during the war, the former<br />

voluntarily and the latter being confiscated as a war·<br />

measure against enemy business. Two of the foreign<br />

non.British banks, established since the war, have<br />

retired, namely, the South African institution in 1924 and<br />
