weak during the whole year. Since May the rates have
been unfavourable. The exchange could feel appreciably
that the prosperous interest.enjoying class has ceased to
exist or function in an effective manner. The scarcity of
investment.seeking capital was a prominent factor in the
difference between pre·war and post.stabilization times.
Very few companies were in a position to declare
dividends. Asa consequence, shareholders, especially
those to whom the proceeds therefrom constituted a
source of daily bread and butter. were compelled to sell
the shares. The number of profitable transactions in
which the Bank could participate was therefore small.
The net profit of the Bank was, however, 5,124,540
M (including 464,635 M carried' forward from 1924).
