weak during the whole year. Since May the rates have<br />

been unfavourable. The exchange could feel appreciably<br />

that the prosperous interest.enjoying class has ceased to<br />

exist or function in an effective manner. The scarcity of<br />

investment.seeking capital was a prominent factor in the<br />

difference between pre·war and post.stabilization times.<br />

Very few companies were in a position to declare<br />

dividends. Asa consequence, shareholders, especially<br />

those to whom the proceeds therefrom constituted a<br />

source of daily bread and butter. were compelled to sell<br />

the shares. The number of profitable transactions in<br />

which the Bank could participate was therefore small.<br />

The net profit of the Bank was, however, 5,124,540<br />

M (including 464,635 M carried' forward from 1924).<br />

This was distributed in the following manner:<br />

The Deutsche Bank and the Disconto.Gesellschaft<br />

had lower net profits in 1925 than in 1924. But<br />

the net profit of the Dresdner Bank for 1925 is several<br />

tho~sand Marks hil5her than -for 1924.<br />

From bills of exchange and interest, etc. the income<br />

was 30·7 million M in the place of 33·9 million M i~'<br />
