It has become dear in the foregoing examinations<br />

.that in point of per capita bank wealth the Italian and<br />

Japanese co-efficients of t?-day are much nearer to the<br />

'Indian (and of course Bengali) co-efficients than are the<br />

Anglo-American or German {and French) co-efficients.,<br />

Chronologically, also, the distance or'India (and naturally<br />

of Bengal) from Italy and Japan in regard to banking<br />

progress is much shorter than that from the four other<br />

great powers. Amon.g these foui, again, the t~io,~the<br />

U.S.A., Great Britain and Germany.-i~ too high for<br />

India from the ~t~mdpoint 'of per, capita developments<br />

in bank capitalism' '~d bank management, and therefore<br />

too far ahead C?f India in point of time. Consequently,<br />

the American, British and German experiences of today<br />

can by no means stand as examples f~r emulation by<br />

Bengali bank promoters or directors. It is the methods<br />

and. attainments of the Anglo-American-German bankin,g<br />

worla of some sixty or seventy years ago, that the<br />
