7.22.7 If an emergency authorisation is not implemented within 12 hours,<br />

the Team Leader must notify the Police and the Reporter.<br />

7.23 Police powers to take a child to a place of safety<br />

7.23.1 Under Section 61(5) the police are given powers to protect children in<br />

emergency situations. Where a police officer has reasonable cause<br />

to believe:<br />

• That the criteria for making a child protection order under<br />

Section 57 (1) are satisfied<br />

• That it is not practicable to apply for such an order from a<br />

sheriff or for the sheriff to consider such an application<br />

• That it is necessary to remove the child to a place of safety<br />

in order to protect the child from significant harm or further<br />

such harm.<br />
