To consider the need for a referral to the <strong>Child</strong>ren’s<br />

Reporter.<br />

4.5 Attendance<br />

4.5.1 Full attendance should usually be restricted to those representatives<br />

of agencies who have a statutory duty or who have ‘a need to know’,<br />

or who have relevant information or expertise to contribute. Other<br />

individuals (including, e.g. representatives from playgroups or other<br />

community groups) should be allowed either full or partial<br />

attendance at the discretion of the Chairperson of the <strong>Child</strong><br />

<strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference. (Requests from or for such people to<br />

attend should be made in advance of the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case<br />

Conference so as to enable the Chairperson to consult <strong>Child</strong><br />

<strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference members as to their views). The<br />

following people should always be invited to a <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case<br />

Conference. Their direct contribution is vital :<br />

(a)<br />

(b)<br />

(c)<br />

(d)<br />

(e)<br />

(f)<br />

(g)<br />

(h)<br />

(i)<br />

Social workers (field, hospital or residential). It is important<br />

to include any social worker who has previous knowledge<br />

of the child or family.<br />

Designated Paediatrician for <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong><br />

Health Visitor or School Nurse<br />

<strong>Child</strong>ren’s Reporter<br />

General Practitioner<br />

Teacher and/or any teacher with special responsibility<br />

regarding child abuse; and/or representative from the<br />

Nursery School.<br />

Female and <strong>Child</strong> Unit, Police<br />

Parents/child (where appropriate)<br />

Educational and/or Clinical Psychologist<br />

4.5.2 Each participant should be clear about the reason for, and purpose of<br />

the Conference, why he or she is present, and their current role and<br />

contribution to the management of the case. Each is responsible for<br />

ensuring that their own agency is aware of the tasks or action<br />

required. Participants who attend the Case Conference should have<br />

the authority to carry out the decisions of the Case Conference.<br />
