3.14.13.3 The Link Worker/Family Placement Supervisor should<br />

assist the carers to express their views. They should<br />

encourage carers to:<br />

3.14.14 <strong>Child</strong>ren in Foster Care<br />

• Seek independent advice<br />

• Seek independent support e.g. the NFCA<br />

• Prepare for any interviews<br />

• Commit their views in writing<br />

3.14.14.1 Where an investigation of concerns in respect of foster<br />

children leads to concerns regarding other children in the<br />

household there should be:<br />

• Separate recording of concerns<br />

• Clear and separate decisions for each child<br />

• Separate child protection planning and action<br />

3.14.15 Keeping Relevant Parties Informed<br />

3.14.15.1 Efforts must be made by the Service Unit Manager/Team<br />

Leader to keep all relevant parties informed of progress<br />

where possible throughout the course of investigation.<br />

3.14.15.2 Any actions decided upon as a result of the investigation<br />

must be communicated by the Service Unit Manager/Team<br />

Leader, at the earliest posible opportunity, to the child,<br />

his/her family and the foster carers.<br />

3.14.16 Maintaining Records<br />

3.14.16.1 Any investigation which is undertaken must use the<br />

appropriate forms (e.g. CP1) and the process for recording<br />

the interview process and the decision making should be<br />

as outlined in 3.19.<br />

3.14.17 <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Conferences<br />

(See Section 4)<br />

3.14.17.1 Under the circumstances covered within this section, foster<br />

carers do not have an automatic right to attend child<br />

protection conferences although their presence can be<br />

helpful in ensuring full and accurate information is<br />

available.<br />
