5.10 Informing Parents<br />
5.10.1 Parents must be told both verbally and in writing when their child’s<br />
name is added to (or taken off) the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Register. The<br />
full significance of registration must be explained. Parents must be<br />
told what information is held on the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Register, who<br />
has access to it, and what the procedures and criteria for deregistration<br />
are.<br />
5.10.2 This information should also be given to parents by the Social Work<br />
Department in writing.<br />
5.10.3 There should be no delay in informing parents, except in rare<br />
circumstances where limited delay might be necessary to protect the<br />
child, a professional worker or one parent from another.<br />
5.10.4 Responsibility for informing parents rests with the Chairperson<br />
(unless a <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference agrees otherwise).<br />
5.11 Content of <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Register<br />
5.11.1 The <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Register should contain the following minimum<br />
information:<br />
(a)<br />
<strong>Child</strong>’s full name, known aliases, known address, gender,<br />
date of birth, age at registration;<br />
(b) Religious persuasion, race, cultural and linguistic<br />
background;<br />
(c)<br />
(d)<br />
(e)<br />
Date of first registration, category of registration, date<br />
parents told, date of next Review Case Conference, date<br />
of de-registration or transfer of child to another council and<br />
arrangements made for the hand over to the Social Work<br />
Department in the new area e.g. conference held, records<br />
transferred etc.<br />
Legal status of child, and any court orders or Supervision<br />
Requirements in force; (register to be amended on every<br />
change in legal status)<br />
Full names (including maiden name), known aliases, and<br />
addresses of parents and others caring for the child, the<br />
name and address of any other adult member of the<br />
household, together with information on their relationship<br />
to the child, and the name of any parent or person with<br />
parental responsibilities living outwith the child’s<br />
household;<br />
