further Case Conference in these circumstances<br />

4.4.2 In broad terms, the purpose of a <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference is<br />

to ensure an overall approach to the case that is objective, properly<br />

focused, and multi-disciplinary .<br />

4.4.3 More specifically, the purpose of an Initial <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case<br />

Conference is:<br />

(a)<br />

To evaluate and co-ordinate investigation findings,<br />

assessments and proposals for action regarding new and<br />

un-registered cases, and to identify whether further<br />

investigation or assessment needs to take place. Careful<br />

consideration must be given to the assessment of other<br />

children in the household and any risk to them.<br />

To provide clear opportunities for information and thoughts<br />

to be shared between professional workers and others<br />

involved in the case; and to ensure that no useful<br />

contribution is missed. Where expert opinion has been<br />

sought it must be considered by the Case Conference.<br />

To decide whether or not to register or de-register a<br />

child/and or other children in the family.<br />

(d) To put in place a ‘<strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Plan’ (see Section 4.20)<br />

in respect of a registered child.<br />

To formulate a plan of work with the family.<br />

To nominate a key worker for the case and to identify other<br />

‘core ‘ personnel who will work with the child and the family<br />

(See Core Group 4.21)<br />

To ensure that as much confidentiality is maintained as is<br />

consistent with the protection of the child.<br />

To ensure that all concerned have a clear and agreed<br />

understanding of the facts of the case, of each other’s<br />

contributions to dealing with it, and of the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong><br />

Plan recommendation.<br />

To ensure that contributions and recommendations are<br />

comprehensively and accurately recorded.<br />

To decide who will receive a copy of the minutes of the<br />

Case Conference.<br />
