To monitor properly the child’s development and the<br />

family’s progress;<br />

To ensure that the child’s immediate and long term needs<br />

4.20.2 Every <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Plan should have three main elements.<br />

These are:<br />

4.21 Core Groups<br />

Specific requirements made of parents and child as to<br />

matters such as medical checks, access by Social Worker,<br />

school attendance, family centre attendance etc.<br />

Treatment plans, casework objectives, overall plans for<br />

case management, contact with relevant persons where<br />

appropriate.<br />

Clear definitions of who does what with timescales where<br />

appropriate.<br />

4.21.1 The core group is essentially a small group of inter-agency staff with key<br />

involvement in the case who meet with the parent(s) or carer(s) and<br />

young person (if appropriate).<br />

4.21.2 The decision as to membership and minimum frequency of Core Group<br />

meetings will be taken at the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference by the<br />

Chairperson. The terms of reference for the Core Group will be<br />

contained within the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Plan. The main function of the<br />

Core Group will be to share information and review progress in relation<br />

to implementing the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Plan. They should normally be<br />

chaired by a Team Leader. A minute of the meeting should be taken<br />

and distributed to the Core group, all other parties to the registration and<br />

the Service Unit Manager, (<strong>Child</strong>ren and Families) within five working<br />

days of the meeting having taken place.<br />

4.21.3 Suggested alterations to the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Plan must be endorsed by<br />

the Service Unit Manager (<strong>Child</strong>ren and Families) and a copy of the<br />

minute of the Core Group Meeting sent to the Chair of the <strong>Child</strong><br />

<strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference who may then decide to convene a Review<br />

<strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Case Conference.<br />

4.21.4 However, all parties to the registration will require to be advised of any<br />

proposed changes to the <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Protection</strong> Plan and their views sought.<br />
