Kennedy & Gadd (2000) identified toxicity data for organic compounds known to be emitted by motor<br />

vehicles <strong>and</strong> for organic compounds identified as potentially being present in emissi<strong>on</strong> sources (e.g.,<br />

tyres <strong>and</strong> brake pads) that released particles to the road corridor. Toxicity data was collected<br />

generated using the computer programmes ECOSAR <strong>and</strong> ASTER (derived using molecular weight<br />

<strong>and</strong> kow data <strong>and</strong> compound structure). <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> toxicity data was sorted to derive an ENEV<br />

(Envir<strong>on</strong>mental no-effects value). <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> ENEV value was calculated from the lowest chr<strong>on</strong>ic value<br />

where sufficient data was available <strong>and</strong> an applicati<strong>on</strong> factor <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 10. <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> toxicity data for the particular<br />

compound then allowed it to be ranked into <strong>on</strong>e <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> three categories (low, medium <strong>and</strong> high toxicity).<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> thresholds used were similar but lower than those used by ERMA (1999). <str<strong>on</strong>g>The</str<strong>on</strong>g> toxicity data was<br />
