Maintain Your Assigned Protective Mask<br />

Conditions: You have used your assigned protective mask or must<br />

conduct a scheduled mask inspection. You are given your assigned<br />

protective mask (with authorized accessories and components), cleaning<br />

materials in accordance with (IAW) the applicable operator's technical<br />

manual (TM), a preventive maintenance checks and services (DA Form<br />

2404, Equipment Inspection and Maintenance Worksheet) IAW<br />

Department of the <strong>Army</strong> Pamphlet (DA Pam) 750-8, mask replacement<br />

parts, and a new filter. This task cannot be per<strong>for</strong>med in mission-oriented<br />

protective posture (MOPP) 4.<br />

Standards: Maintain your assigned protective mask by per<strong>for</strong>ming<br />

operator level PMCS on your protective mask IAW the PMCS table<br />

located in your mask's operator's TM, cleaning your protective mask IAW<br />

your mask's operator's TM, recording uncorrected deficiencies on DA<br />

Form 2404 IAW DA Pam 750-8, providing the completed DA Form 2404<br />

to your supervisor <strong>for</strong> his/her review and guidance, and per<strong>for</strong>ming all<br />

maintenance without damaging your protective mask.<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

WARNING<br />

Read and adhere to all safety notes in your mask's operator's TM<br />

prior to beginning mask maintenance.<br />

1. Inspect your protective mask, carrier, hood, and accessories according to the<br />

PMCS tables located in your mask's operator's TM.<br />

a. Identify deficiencies and shortcomings.<br />

b. Correct operator level deficiencies.<br />

c. Record all uncorrected deficiencies and shortcomings about DA Form<br />

2404 IAW DA Pam 750-8, and report them to your supervisor.<br />

2. Clean and dry the mask, hood, and authorized accessories and components<br />

IAW your mask's operator's TM.<br />

3. Store the mask, hood, and accessories in the carrier according to your mask's<br />

operator's TM.<br />

Evaluation Preparation: Setup: A good time to evaluate this task is<br />

during normal care and cleaning of the mask. Place the required<br />

equipment on a field table or another suitable surface. Simulate defects in<br />

the mask by removing components from the mask or using a defective<br />
