Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

c. Use a white light during hours of reduced visibility if METT-TC<br />

permits..<br />

d. Check <strong>for</strong> abnormalities such as disturbed earth, wires, cables, or<br />

anything that does not look like it belongs there.<br />

e. Do not dismount unless directed to do so by the vehicle commander.<br />

f. If ordered to dismount, check under the vehicle <strong>for</strong> visual indicators of<br />

IEDs.<br />

g. If dismounted, continue to scan assigned sector.<br />

2. Conduct a 25-meter scan.<br />

a. Upon completion of the 5-meter scan, continue scanning assigned<br />

sector out to 25 meters.<br />

b. Scan near to far, ground level to above head height.<br />

c. Use binoculars, night vision goggles, weapons optics, and such as<br />

available.<br />

d. Use a white light during hours of reduced visibility if METT-TC<br />

permits.<br />

e. Do not dismount unless directed to do so by the vehicle commander.<br />

f. If ordered to dismount, continue to scan within assigned sector out to<br />

25 meters.<br />

g. Check under the vehicle <strong>for</strong> indicators of IEDs when you dismount.<br />

h. If dismounted, maintain a low profile around the vehicle during your<br />

scan. Keep moving using an erratic pattern in order to be a less inviting target <strong>for</strong><br />

a sniper.<br />

3. Conduct a 200-meter scan.<br />

a. Continue a systematic scan out to 200 meters within assigned area of<br />

scan.<br />

b. Search near to far, high to low.<br />

c. Look <strong>for</strong> suspicious activity involving people, objects, and animals.<br />

d. Search <strong>for</strong> reflections, muzzle flash, wires, and anything that looks out<br />

of place.<br />

e. Use binoculars, night vision goggles, weapons optics, and such as<br />

available.<br />

f. Do not dismount unless directed to do so by the vehicle commander.<br />

g. Check under the vehicle <strong>for</strong> indicators of IEDs when you dismount.<br />

h. If dismounted, maintain a low profile around the vehicle during your<br />

a sniper.<br />

4. Report suspicious activity or a possible IED to the vehicle commander.<br />
