Transport a Casualty using a Military Vehicle<br />

Conditions: You have evaluated and provided first aid to a casualty. You<br />

have determined that the casualty must be evacuated to receive further<br />

medical treatment. A military vehicle (ground vehicle or rotary-wing<br />

aircraft) is available. You have a litter and straps to secure the patient and<br />

the litter.<br />

Standards: Secure the casualty on a litter and load the litter onto a<br />

military vehicle (ground vehicle or rotary-wing aircraft) without causing<br />

undo pain or further harm to the casualty.<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

1. Determine the order in which casualties are to be evacuated.<br />

a. First priority.<br />

(1) Serious respiratory problems.<br />

(2) Severe blood loss.<br />

(3) Second and third degree burns of the face, neck, or perineum.<br />

(4) Closed head injuries, with decreasing mental status.<br />

(5) Poor blood circulation in a limb or with no detectable circulation<br />

in a limb.<br />

b. Second priority.<br />

(1) Chest wounds.<br />

(2) Abdominal wounds.<br />

(3) Extensive, serious eye injuries.<br />
