Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

(EOD) personnel or until you are well relieved.<br />

(6) Release the driver and occupants to the supervisor or military<br />

police along with any documentation and identification collected.<br />

b. Search <strong>for</strong> prohibited items.<br />

(1) Never handle the prohibited items unless ordered by the supervisor<br />

or military police.<br />

(2) Notify the supervisor and military police.<br />

(3) Secure the driver and all occupants of the vehicle.<br />

11. Release the driver and occupants if no explosive devices or prohibited items<br />

are found or if suspected items are cleared by the military police or EOD<br />

personnel.<br />

a. Give ID cards and all gathered documentation back to the driver.<br />

Evaluation Preparation: Setup: Provide the Soldier with a vehicle to<br />

search in a well-lit area. Identify role players as a driver and an occupant<br />

<strong>for</strong> the vehicle. Ensure that role players are authorized to operate the<br />

vehicle be<strong>for</strong>e beginning this task. Notify role players that they are to<br />

comply with and follow all instructions given by the Soldier searching the<br />

vehicle. Have role players place a dummy explosive device or dummy<br />

prohibited item somewhere in, under, or on the vehicle to be searched<br />

prior to the Soldiers arriving to test. The dummy explosive device or<br />

dummy prohibited item can be handmade. It should not be large enough to<br />

gain immediate discovery yet not so small that it cannot be detected by a<br />

very motivated Soldier conducting a reasonable search. Give the Soldier a<br />

search mirror, a flashlight, a reflective vest, and the local SOP.<br />

Brief Soldier: Tell the Soldier that he/she has an armed partner pulling<br />

overwatch security <strong>for</strong> him/her through the duration of this task. The tester<br />

will play the role of the Soldier's supervisor and the military police. Point<br />

at the vehicle that you want the Soldier to search and tell the Soldier to<br />

conduct this task as outlined in the per<strong>for</strong>mance steps. Tell the Soldier that<br />

the vehicle has a role player driver and a role player occupant, and that<br />

both role players will respond to his/her instructions.<br />
