Search Suspect Vehicle <strong>for</strong> Improvised Explosive Device (IED)<br />

Conditions: In a contemporary operational environment (COE), given<br />

<strong>for</strong>ce protection or any EOD mission that requires the searching of<br />

vehicles <strong>for</strong> IED's using EOD specific tools and equipment; appropriate<br />

protective ensembles; chemical, biological, radioactive, nuclear and<br />

explosive (CBRNE) detection and monitoring sets; communication and<br />

navigation tracking systems; electronic counter measures (ECM)<br />

capability; supporting unit's operation order (OPORD) and standing<br />

operating procedures (SOP), maps and overlays; and target site<br />

intelligence requirements.<br />

Standards: Identify all suspicious items that can be classified as possible<br />

IED's during a vehicle search IAW applicable TM's without error.<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

1. Check the area around the vehicle.<br />

2. Ensure vehicle is stabilized and blocked to prevent rocking, tilting or<br />

moving.<br />

3 Conduct external search of vehicle to include, but not limited to, underside,<br />

bumpers, wheel wells, and grill.<br />

4. Open trunk and engine compartment remotely, if possible, to gain access.<br />

5. Conduct search of trunk and engine compartment.<br />
