Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

1. Use the SALUTE <strong>for</strong>mat to ensure essential in<strong>for</strong>mation is reported. If<br />

unable to make determination, report activity as unknown.<br />

a. S Size. Report the number of personnel, vehicles, aircraft, or size of<br />

an object. Make an estimate if necessary.<br />

b. A Activity. Report detailed account of actions; <strong>for</strong> example,<br />

direction of movement, troops digging in, artillery fire, type of attack, NBC<br />

activity, and so <strong>for</strong>th.<br />

c. L Location. Report where you saw the activity. Include grid<br />

coordinates or reference from a known point, including the distance and direction<br />

from the known point.<br />

d. U Unit. Report the enemy's unit. If the unit is unknown, report any<br />

distinctive features, such as uni<strong>for</strong>ms, patches or colored tabs, headgear, vehicle<br />

identification markings, and so <strong>for</strong>th.<br />

e. T Time. Report the time and date the activity was observed, not the<br />

time you report it. Always report local or Zulu time.<br />

f. E Equipment. Report all equipment associated with the activity,<br />

such as weapons, vehicles, and tools. If unable to identify the equipment, provide<br />

as much detail as you can so an identification can be made by higher<br />

headquarters.<br />

g. Remarks. Include any in<strong>for</strong>mation not included in the SALUTE<br />

<strong>for</strong>mat.<br />

2. Provide spot report to appropriate authority or chain of command using<br />

available commo.<br />

Evaluation Preparation: Setup: Position two to four personnel (dressed<br />

in aggressor uni<strong>for</strong>ms if available) where they are observable with the<br />

naked eye (or binoculars if available). Direct the aggressors to per<strong>for</strong>m<br />

some type of activity such as setting up camp, cleaning weapons, working<br />

on a vehicle, or studying maps. Provide the Soldier with a 1:50,000-scale<br />

topographic map of the test area. If you require the Soldier to write the<br />

report, provide paper and a pen or pencil. If you require the Soldier to<br />

radio the report to someone else, provide two radios and an SOI.<br />

Per<strong>for</strong>mance Measures GO NO GO<br />

1. Recorded observations of enemy activity in a spot report<br />

which includes—<br />

a. Size.<br />

b. Activity.<br />

c. Location.<br />
