f. Did not dismount unless directed to do so by the<br />

indicators of IED's.<br />

h. When dismounted, maintained a low profile around<br />

the vehicle during scan. Kept moving using an erratic pattern<br />

in order to be a less inviting target <strong>for</strong> a sniper.<br />

Prepare Vehicle <strong>for</strong> Convoy Operations<br />

Conditions: You are a vehicle operator preparing to conduct operations<br />

within a tactical convoy in a contemporary operational environment.<br />

Provided a tactical wheeled vehicle (armored or unarmored); BII and<br />

materials to harden vehicle (if needed), such as wire mesh, filled sandbags,<br />

rubber or fiber mats, wood shoring material, and steel plates, or any other<br />

local and available materials that may be used <strong>for</strong> vehicle hardening;<br />

operational vehicle intercom system; crew-served weapon; weapons<br />

mount and ammunition; DA Form 2404 (Equipment Inspection and<br />

Maintenance Worksheet) and DA Form 5987-E (Motor Equipment<br />

Dispatch [EGA]); individual field equipment (TA-50 required <strong>for</strong><br />

mission); tactical radio set with frequencies, or mounted movement<br />

tracking system (MTS); vehicle load plan; mission load (cargo) or<br />

equipment; and mission guidance.<br />

Standards: You must configure your vehicle to best suit the coming<br />

tactical convoy mission by per<strong>for</strong>ming all required be<strong>for</strong>e-operational<br />

maintenance and safety checks to secure an active unit dispatch. If the<br />

vehicle is unarmored, you are to harden your vehicle by placing protective<br />

materials over vital, vulnerable areas such as fuel tanks, in the cab and<br />

cargo/passenger areas (as applicable). All preparations are not to interfere<br />
