Per<strong>for</strong>mance Steps<br />

6. Establish and maintain control of the situation.<br />

a. Comply with the ROE, any host-nation requirements, applicable<br />

international treaties, and operational agreements.<br />

Note: ROE are directives issued by competent military authority that delineate the<br />

circumstances and the limitations under which United States <strong>for</strong>ces will initiate and/or<br />

continue combat engagement with other <strong>for</strong>ces encountered. ROE help commanders<br />

accomplish the mission by regulating the rules of the use of <strong>for</strong>ce. Everyone must<br />

understand the ROE and be prepared to execute them well in every possible confrontation.<br />

b. Minimize casualties and damage.<br />

c. Maintain professional demeanor and appearance.<br />

Evaluation Preparation: Setup: Provide the Soldier with the equipment<br />

and/or materials described in the conditions statement.<br />

Brief Soldier: Tell the Soldier what is expected of him by reviewing the<br />

task standards. Stress the importance of observing all cautions and<br />

warnings to avoid injury to personnel and, if applicable, damage to<br />

equipment.<br />

1. Assessed the situation by identifying the level of hostile —— ——<br />

Conventions<br />

Conditions: You are a Soldier in the U.S. <strong>Army</strong>. As a Soldier, you must<br />

identify, understand, and comply with the provisions of the law of war,<br />

including the Geneva and Hague Conventions. You must also identify any<br />

suspected or known violations of the law of war and notify the appropriate<br />

authorities.<br />
