Figure 3.19: Supporting Baltimore’s Library system — and socializing: the Pratt Contemporaries
A black and white party is one where the color theme is, you guessed it, black and white. This can include dress, the invitation, decorations, games, food and
drinks, and even music.
Networks of high net worth individuals
From the mid-late 1990s, giving, including more modest levels of giving was encouraged in and around the Twin
Cities through the 1 Percent Club, individuals and families who committed to give a minimum of 1 percent
annually of their net worth to charity. The Club is outlined more fully in Box 3.6. Though the club no longer
exists, there are some key lessons to be learned from it:
• There is room for several types of club (the wealthy and those of more modest means) and a group of
younger givers who often lack substantial wealth;
• A social element is important to all of the networks; and
• An educational/value-added element is also important.
