4.3 Library Services 4.3 LIBRARY SERVICES This section describes the City of Inglewood’s existing library services. Information for this section is based on the City’s website and discussions with staff at the Public Library 78 . • Existing Conditions Library Facilities The Inglewood Library Department currently manages and operates three libraries; the Inglewood Main Library, the Morningside Park Branch Library and the Crenshaw- Imperial Branch Library, which is closed until early summer 2006 due to renovations. Figure 4.3-1 identifies the locations of the City’s libraries. As of March 2006, the Library Department has 30 full-time staff working at its three branches. The Inglewood library system includes a number of materials and databases including books, magazines, periodicals, business materials, software, sound recordings, computer games, reference documents, and community information available for use by patrons. Many of these materials are also available in Spanish. Internet access is also available and many reference materials are available by electronic access via the Library’s database. The Inglewood library system provides more than 150,000 books for youth at the Main Library and branches as well as young adult and children's videos and sound recordings at the Audio-Visual Division, Main Library. The Library Department defines "youth" as young people from infants through the eighth grade. As of June 30, 2005, the most recent data available, the Inglewood Library Department had 78,204 79 registered borrowers, accounting for 67 percent of the City’s 2005 population. The annual circulation rate for fiscal year 2004/05 was 291,939 80 ; this number includes books, periodicals and audio/video materials that were in checkout usage for the department. The Inglewood Main Library The Main Library, located at 101 W. Manchester Boulevard, has a collection of over 400,000 volumes, including 1,500 periodical subscriptions. The library is open Monday through Saturday and on Sunday afternoons.
