Village Specific Plan
The Village, formerly known as Darby-Dixon, is located just east of the International
Business Park Specific Plan, and is bounded by Club Drive on the west, Century
Boulevard on the north, Crenshaw Boulevard on the east, and 104 th Street on the south.
When the Specific Plan was adopted in 1998, the area was experiencing a high level of
crime and blight, including impacts from high aircraft noise levels, physical deterioration,
increased costs for property owners, and diminished quality of life for residents. The
Specific Plan was prepared to aid in the economic and residential revitalization of the
neighborhood by putting in place a vision, physical plan, development regulations, and
implementation strategy. At the northern portion of the Specific Plan is the “Village at
Century”, recently completed in 2006, consisting of major retail, restaurants, and other
specialty shops including Michael’s, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Marshall’s, Red Lobster, and
Chili’s. The southern portion consists of the new and renovated residential areas which
are buffered from the commercial areas by two areas of public open space in the middle
of the Specific Plan Area. 6
• Redevelopment Project Areas
The Inglewood Redevelopment Agency was established in 1969 to revitalize blighted
areas in the City that have been designated as Redevelopment Project Areas by the City
Council. The overall goal of the Agency is to eliminate blight to promote new
development and to enhance private sector investment within the Project Areas. The City
currently has six Redevelopment Project Areas, as illustrated in Figure 2.1-4. Following is
a list of current projects planned within some of the Project Areas, as of February, 2005. 7
In-Town Project Area
D-3 Development. This project includes a 37,000-square-foot Retail Center on a 2.8-acre site
bounded by La Brea Avenue on the west, Regent Avenue on the south, Market Street on
the east, and Florence Avenue on the north. The City is currently in the exclusive
negotiation stage with the developer for this project.
Century Project Area
The Village at Century. This project is located on a 19-acre site bounded by Club Drive on
the west, Century Boulevard on the north, Crenshaw Boulevard on the east, and 104 th
Street on the south. The project was recently completed in 2006 by the Haagan
Company. The Village consists of a 193,000-square-foot retail shopping center adjacent
to the Costco Center, featuring major retail, restaurants, and other specialty shops
including Ross, Marshall’s, Bed, Bath, & Beyond, Petco, Michael’s, Red Lobster, and
